Nimpot is a handicraft market and textile center founded by Frank Lee Mays, who came from the US more than 25 years ago with the idea of creating a business and help at the same time the indigenous community by selling their products or items and helping them to focus on production. At Nimpot you will find more than just handicrafts, you will also find a huge variety of unique items from all over the country.
Since Nimpot was created Frank focused on learning about the culture and the meaning of every pattern embroider on the textiles brought to the store. Guatemala has 23 different ethnic groups there for also 23 different patterns and so 23 different languages and only one out of the 23 considered a dialect since it does not have an specific form of writing.
After more than 25 years on the market Nimpot has become one of the biggest textile centers in the entire country. The founder and CEO of the company Frank Lee Mays has past away on December the 3rd of 2016, but the company continues running and assisting the indigenous community. Nnimpot was the center of Ojo Cosmico 3ro. business that extended 2 more branches, a restaurant and organic farm considered one of the 5 restaurants with the best views of the entire country “Cerro San Cristobal” and and art gallery that has bring fine art from all Latin America to Guatemala “La Antigua Galeria de Arte”.
